The municipality of Bulakan lies in the southwestern part of the province of Bulacan and is surrounded by a number of municipalities. It is bounded on the north by Guiguinto, on the south by Manila Bay, on the east by Bocaue, on the west by the City of Malolos, on the northeast by Balagtas and on the southeast by Obando. Located thirty five kilometers from Manila. It has a land area of approximately 6,505 hectares with 14 barangays, and home to 63,263 Bulakan hardworking residents.

Prior to the arrival of the Spaniards, Bulakan, and the rest of the provincial towns, consisted of small scattered settlements or “barangays” that dotted the seashores and riverbanks, thus, they were called “taga-ilog,” or river dwellers. From “taga-ilog,” the word “Tagalog” was coined. The early Tagalogs were peaceful, honest, industrious, and hardworking and were engaged in farming, fishing and handicrafts, especially weaving. "Bulakan" originated from the Tagalog word "bulak," which means "cotton." It is believed that the Spaniards named the town Bulakan due to the abundance of cotton plants growing in the region. Founded in 1574, the town is one of the oldest in the country and was the center of economic activity with the early inhabitants enjoying excellent trade with Manila, primarily due to its proximity to the city and its accessibility through its wide, passable river.

A quiet and peaceful residential town, most Bulakenyos work outside the town as skilled workers in the neighboring communities of Malolos and Guiguinto, while young professionals commute to and from the commercial and business hubs in Metro Manila.
